Pregnancy Calendar - 8th Week

For the mother:

• The uterus is the size of an orange now. The middle line of the tummy begins to darken and vaginal secretions increase. The oiliness of the skin increases due to the increased hormones of pregnancy and this will persist until the end of the first trimester.

For the baby:

• The facial features of the embryo are beginning to become visible. The rudimentary nose, the nostrils and the eyes that are open have not yet come to their normal position. Concurrently, the mouth and the inside of the ears are being developed. The intestine is created and begins to wind. The creation of the teeth in the mouth is beginning.
• The size of the fetus (head-tail distance) in this period ranges from 14 to 20mm.
