Pregnancy Calendar - 12th Week
- Supply your organism with more liquids, as you may probably feel more thirsty.
- Avoid a lot of creams and ointments because many of them contain chemicals that may harm the fetus.
- Follow your daily physical exercise routine such as walking and swimming.
For the mother:
- You feel the temperature of your body higher than usual, and you especially notice profuse sweating of your limbs which are symptoms caused by the increased volume of blood circulating in your body.
- Your uterus reaches the pubic symphysis. Thus beginning to emerge from the pelvis, it stops pressuring the bladder reducing frequent urination, which will return in the last trimester when your uterus will have grown excessively.
For the baby:
- The embryo’s bones begin to strengthen as a result of the supply of calcium.
- The genitals acquire their first characteristics, however, only a specialist can confirm if your baby is a boy or a girl.
- The fetus is able to proceed at will in a variety of movements of the trunk and extremities.
- The embryo is already able to smile or frown.
- The fetus gets excited and adapts to the surrounding environment.
- The embryo’s digestive system is able to produce contractions that are necessary for the distribution of food to the intestines for the absorption of glucose. The umbilical cord supplies the fetus with food and it discharges faecal matter produced as a result of the fetus’s rapid growth.
- The vocal cords are formed in his/her throat, although the fetus seeks the required air to make them vibrate and produce sounds.
- The size of the fetus (head-tail distance) reaches approximately 63mm and its weight ranges between 9 and 14 grams.
