Pregnancy Calendar - 38th Week
- Prepare your bag:
- With everything you will need for yourself and your baby upon your return home
- With your personal items that will provide you with comfort and safety during your stay in hospital
For the mother:
- If your baby has moved towards the lower part of your pelvis, you may now feel less pressure on your chest and stomach.
- The uterus puts a lot of pressure on your bladder, which is why your visits to the bathroom will be more frequent.
For the baby:
- In preparation for birth, the fetus is engaged in activities that you will see after delivery, such as sucking, to which the embryo devotes most of his time when alert.
- The embryo has now assigned sleep and alertness periods within the day.
- The fetus has grown so much that it no longer has the ability to change positions until the time of birth. Of course, the embryo continues to acquire mass.
- Much of the expressions and movements of the embryo consist of responses to sounds, touch and other senses.
- The fetus’s environment is changing, but we do not know how the baby feels about it.
- The initial contractions squeeze the abdominal area around the embryo.
- The cranium and the abdomen of the fetus have approximately the same circumference.
- The size of the fetus (head-tail distance) now reaches about 37cm and weighs approximately 3.05 kilograms.
