For the mother:
- The gender of your baby is determined by your partner’s sperm. At the time of conception, the gender chromosomes "decide" whether to get a baby boy or girl. Although there is a range of theories about how to conceive a baby of specific gender, none of these methods can be considered guaranteed.
- Fraternal twins -or pseydodidyma- are derived from two ovula fertilized by two different sperms. Each baby has its own placenta and may be of the opposite gender. Twins of this type resemble each other as any two siblings would do. Fraternal twins are carried through the female gender. It is more likely to have twins if there is a corresponding record in your family. Monozygotic twins are rarer. They develop from the same ovulum fertilized by only one sperm. After fertilization, the ovulum is divided into two parts creating two embryos ready to develop. Twins of this type are always the same gender and are identical in appearance, hair colour and eye and blood-type group.
