Pregnancy Calendar - 13th Week
For the mother:
- Symptoms of the first trimester as morning sickness, nausea, vomiting are reduced and usually disappear within this week. Fatigue is reduced and you have more energy as to start feeling really pregnant.
- Your expanded uterus has now reached 10cm in length penetrating the abdomen, so you may notice the first signs of "inflation".
For the baby:
- The fetus is in constant motion, though you are not feeling it.
- The embryo’s thumbs have been shaped.
- Your baby may now be feeling sounds, though his ears have not yet acquired their final form.
- The bowel is enclosed in the abdominal wall and begins to lengthen. The pancreas is formed and starts its operation even secreting insulin.
- The placenta is maturing to provide your baby with oxygen, nutrients and to eliminate waste. The placenta also produces progesterone, estradiol and other hormones that help maintain the continuation of the pregnancy.
- The creation of the rib cage and the tissue that will form the bones in the head, the feet and the legs of your baby is beginning.
- The size of the fetus (head-tail distance) reaches approximately 75mm and weighs approximately 20grams.
