Pregnancy Calendar - 11th Week
- Schedule the first prenatal examination with your doctor and jot down any questions you have about your labour.
- Perform the antenatal tests to establish if all is well for you.
For the mother:
- Your body weight has increased, although exteriorly it does not resemble the typical image of a pregnant woman. The blood volume will increase by 40 - 50% during pregnancy, thus the veins in the chest, abdomen and legs will start to be visible.
- Fatigue is a constant symptom which may be increased due to insomnia which may occur.
For the baby:
- The fetus grows rapidly and during this week its size will be doubled.
- The cranium remains disproportionately large compared to the rest of his/her body.
- All the vital organs of your baby - brain, lungs, liver, intestines and kidneys - are fully formed and increasing in volume.
- The first nails appear.
- The irises of the eye begin to grow beneath the rudimentary embryo’s eyelids.
- The fetus’s inner ear development is nearly complete.
- The activities of your baby now include sucking, swallowing, and yawning.
- The size of the fetus (head-tail distance) ranges between 44-55mm and its weight has reached approximately 8grams.
