Pregnancy Calendar - 26th Week
- Regularly, exercise your pelvic area as to strengthen the muscles in the region and prevent pain.
- Seek contact with your baby through songs, music and touching your tummy.
- Do not panic if you find that you forget. Note what you need to do and put things that you use always at the same place. Your memory will return when your baby is born!
For the mother:
- Your uterus is now the size of a soccer ball and presses the diaphragm and your rib cage.
- The uterus also pressures your stomach, which is why you might feel angina (heartburn) and indigestion, especially during large evening meals.
For the baby:
- The vital organs of the fetus have developed.
- The development of the embryo’s eyes is complete.
- Now the fetus has the ability to blink.
- The fetus has now fully formed nails, eyebrows and eyelashes. The brain ultrasounds show that your baby responds to touch and sound, with a possible increase in his/her pulse rate, shaking his/her hands and legs, or following the rhythm of music.
- Soon the baby will begin to acquire mass.
- The fetus’s spine becomes stronger and more flexible, to support his developing body.
- The size of the fetus (head-tail distance) is now just over 23cm and weighs approximately 850grams.
