Pregnancy Calendar - 37th Week
- Use the explosion of energy you may feel wisely and in moderation. Save your strength for the time of labour!
- Be psychologically prepared for the first signs of labour (frequent contractions, bloody mucus).
- Prepare your bag with all that is needed for yourself and your baby upon your return home!
For the mother:
- The uterus has reached its peak just below your breastbone and your breasts are growing and becoming heavier.
For the baby:
- From this point on, your baby may be born virtually at any time. However, no one knows what finally causes delivery.
- The embryo’s immune system continues to grow in order to provide protection after birth. The antibodies that are not produced by itself are taken from you, via the placenta.
- The fetus now attaches to any part of his body that comes close to his mouth and sucks.
- The fetus now spends 30% of his/her time in quiet sleep, while 60% of the sleeping time include rapid eye and body movements, while accelerating the pace of heartbeats. In the remaining 10% the embryo is alert, with continuous movement of the eyes and extremities.
- The fluff has fallen almost completely from the scalp of the fetus, but still has hair, which differ: from a few hairs on the back of the head to a dense tuft of about 2.5cm in length.
- Without strong repulsions or kicks, the movements of the fetus are limited to maneuvering and attempts to stretch his/her limbs.
- The size of the fetus (head-tail distance) now reaches about 35cm and it weighs approximately 2.95 kilograms.
