Pregnancy Calendar - 14th Week

For the mother:
- The increase of the hormones of pregnancy has an effect on your body, which begins to emerge now. The nipples are becoming larger and darker. The midline of the abdomen has a darker colour which starts from the pubic bone and reaches the chest. At 14 weeks the uterus is the size of a large grapefruit.
For the baby:
- The second trimester is the most active period for the fetus. It can bent, stretch, coil and kick.
- Your baby can distinguish his/her thumb from the other fingers, putting it into his/her mouth and suck it. Thus familiarizing with the feel of the skin and the shape of his/her fingers.
- The baby begins to produce urine. The urine is excreted in the amniotic fluid surrounding the fetus.
- Scalp begins to be created including the eyebrows. Also a thin layer of fluff is formed that covers and protects the skin, which will remain until the end of the pregnancy.
- The prostate gland is created in boys and the ovaries in girls descend from the abdomen to the pelvis.
- The size of the fetus (head-tail distance) has reached 80 to 104mm and it now weighs approximately 25grams.
