Pregnancy Calendar - 17th Week
- Do not worry if you notice more secretions in all systems, vagina, perspiration, nasal congestion.
- Use a brassiere that properly supports the breasts because it will protect them from loosening and easing.
For the mother:
- Your breasts are still growing and may now be feeling softer.
- Your body contains more water now than usual, so you might see your limbs swelling, especially towards the end of the day.
For the baby:
- The fetal heart pumps about 24 liters of blood daily.
- The circulatory and urinary systems are fully operational.
- The fetus can make many moves with his hands, like bringing the already-developed fingers in his/her mouth.
- Frequently the umbilical cord is wrapped around the neck of the fetus, which is not a cause of concern, since the neck is very durable and is unaffected by such pressure.
- The fetus is still very weak, since there is no subcutaneous fat.
- The baby's eyes remain closed, however, they continue to grow under the eyelids.
- The fetus is holding his/her breath as the amniotic fluid runs through the air passages of his/her lungs.
- The size of the fetus (head-tail distance) now reaches 11-12cm, and weighs about 140grams.
