Pregnancy Calendar - 23rd Week
- Avoid long hour standing as it strains the veins of the legs and can cause phlebitis.
- Take a warm, relaxing bath!
- Try to sleep on your left side because more blood is transferred to the uterus.
- Enjoy listening to your baby that now moves several times a day.
For the mother:
- Your breasts are preparing to breastfeed your baby and you already secrete small quantities of colostrum, which would later become the baby’s first meal.
For the baby:
- Although now the fetus has acquired more fat, his/her exterior appearance is reddish and with folds.
- The fetus swallows small amounts of amniotic fluid, which provides the necessary fluids and sugars.
- The fetus’s lips are being distinguishable while dental shoots are created underneath the gums.
- The eyes have formed, but the iris has not yet acquired pigmentation.
- The fetus’s hearing ability is now more acute, because the bones of the internal ear have strengthened.
- The pancreas continues to grow.
- The fetus is now capable of making even more vivid movements, punches and kicks.
- The size of the fetus (head-tail distance) reaches about 20cm and weighs approximately 500grams.
